Map reading

Last week we did another exciting activity with year 5.  As part of their geography lessons they had drawn maps of the playground and then some of the class had hidden numbered flags in the playground.  Working in teams we had to search the playground to find the numbered flags and then plot them onto a playground map.  This was a real test of our ability to read a map.

  1. What fun you must have had with your year 5 buddy class. Was it tricky following the map?

  2. Yes it was quite tricky, we had to look for key landmarks like the benches in the playground and the ball court that we can play football in so that we could read the map more easily. Some of us have brothers in the year 5 class so they especially enjoyed working with their family.
