A morning adventure

What a fantastic morning we have had today with our class trip to Sykes Garden Centre.  We couldn't believe the weather, children were even saying they were too hot on our long walk back!!  At the garden centre we investigated different types of plants, garden equipment and shopped for a plant to bring back to grow at school.  The garden centre staff were brilliant, inviting us to help them water all the plants that are under cover and giving us some juice and biscuits after all our hard work.  Have a look at the pictures to see how much fun we had.

Who's this cheeky chap???

I have been so impressed with your fantastic attitude and confidence that you are showing since you came back from holidays. It is really helping you to shine, especially in your reading and writing.

Grace

It is a pleasure to have you in our class Grace. You always work so hard and are able to work independently. What a super example you set everyone else.

Down at the bottom of the garden

Down at the bottom of the garden is our new topic for this term.  This week in our topic lessons we have been looking at the science of growing and looking after plants.  We have all planted bean seeds and started our bean diaries with some great instruction writing on how to plant the bean seed.  As well as planting a seed in soil we have also planted a seed with just a wet paper towel to find out what will happen to it.

I hope they grow I'm looking forward to eating the results!

Finding the difference

This week in maths we have been focusing on "finding the difference" between two numbers.  The children have had great fun making a giant number line (this was a good opportunity to recap our teen numbers from last week) and using the number line to find the difference between two given numbers.  Some children enjoyed writing "find the difference" challenges for their friends to solve using the number line.

Art exhibition

At the end of last term we created some fantastic pieces of art in the style of David Hockney. First we walked accross the road to Skelton Woods and used our skills with the digital camera to take photos of the woods.  Back at school we used these images to create a picture in the style of David Hockney.  I think the results are fantastic.  Here are just a few of the great pieces of art.

Make sure to see all of our art at the forthcoming art exhibition.

You are a very helpful member of our class. You can often be found proactively tidying the classroom on behalf of your classmates and you are quick to volunteer to help adults. Thank you for such a great attitude.
